What Is The

GRE?

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a multiple-choice, computer-based exam that is frequently required for graduate school admission.

WHAT ARE THE GRE

Subjects?

While the order of the sections may vary, each GRE exam will consist of two scored Analytical writing sections, two scored Verbal sections, two scored Quantitative Reasoning sections, and one unscored experimental section (either Verbal or Quantitative Response).

Analytical Writing

The Analytical Writing section of the GRE requires a test taker to write two essays: an Issue Essay, in which the test taker evaluates and agrees with one of two opposing viewpoints, and an Argumentative Essay, in which the test-taker responds to the prompt’s position.

Test takers have 30 minutes to write each essay, respectively.

Verbal Sections

The Verbal sections of the GRE determine a test taker’s ability to analyze sentences and evaluate passages to identify key vocabulary and concepts. Test-takers will encounter questions that cover reading comprehension, vocabulary identification, and sentence equivalence.

Test takers have 30 minutes to answer about 40 multiple-choice questions.

Quantitative Reasoning Sections

The Quantitative Reasoning sections of the GRE test arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, and also requires a test taker to problem solve and analyze data. Test takers will encounter questions that cover quantitative comparisons, problem solving, and data interpretation.

Test takers have 30 minutes to complete 20 questions.
